Women are a diverse group that make more than 80 percent of all buying decisions in the household yet sadly as a whole still earn less money than their counterparts, making just 78 cents for every dollar a man gets.
With couples between the ages of 25 to 39 making up 60 percent of all divorces, gone are the days when women can solely rely on marriage as a form of financial security, yet according to the U.S. Federal Reserve, “Only 35 percent of single women have retirement accounts, and just 8 percent have traditional pensions”
Despite the inequities that still exist, women are making notable financial strides:
Women are starting businesses at a rate of three to one compared to men (SBA.gov)
55 percent of married women bring in half of the household income and 25 percent now out earn their spouses (Common Sense Media) and
Women are more likely than men to seek out and rely on advice from finance books and experts (Merrill Lynch)
